Ducks Downed By Canucks

The Anaheim Ducks continued their homestand against the Vancouver Canucks. Urho Vaakanainen drew in for Jackson LaCombe. Lukas Dostal was in net against Kevin Lankinen.

The Ducks went on a power play just over five minutes into this contest. Aatu Raty was called for tripping against Brock McGinn. Anaheim then converted on the ensuing power play with a goal by Olen Zellweger from the point.
The Canucks answered back on a power play of their own with just under for minutes to go. Brock Boeser tipped a shot past Dostal to tie things up at one. Kiefer Sherwood would score on a one timer in the final minutes of the period to make it a 2-1 advantage at the end of the opening period.
In the second period, Elias Pettersson in the opening minutes to extend the lead to 3-1. Both teams had power play chances in the middle frame, but neither could convert.
The Ducks had a power play early in the third period, but couldn’t cash in on the man advantage. Jake DeBrusk scored about halfway through the period to make it a 4-1 contest. Danton Heinen added one more goal in the final minutes of the game for good measure. Anaheim dropped this one 5-1.
Analysis:
The Ducks had a solid start to this game and grabbed the lead right away. The tables quickly turned in the final minutes of the first period as the Canucks scored twice in about a minute of playing time. Vancouver carried that momentum to the second period outshooting Anaheim 26 to 8.
The Ducks stayed within striking distance in the beginning of the third period, but could’t mount a comeback. A fourth goal in the middle of the period put the game out of reach.
Anaheim was outshot 37 to 22 and couldn’t create many high dangerous chances at even strength. Cutter Gauthier led the forwards with three shots and nearly scored hitting the post on one attempt. The Ducks have many of players that can score, but they couldn’t generate many chances in game at even strength. They did generate 13 shot attempts with the man advantage, but were only able to score once in four power plays.

The Ducks host the Minnesota Wild on Friday at 7PM.
