Ducks Blanked By The Caps

The Anaheim Ducks continued their road trip against the Washington Capitals. Troy Terry joined the team. He had missed the last four games with the birth of second child. John Gibson was in net against Logan Thompson.

The Caps scored first about seven minutes into this contest. Brandon Duhaime got to a rebound through a crowd and sent the puck home for the score.
John Carlson scored with a wrist shot in the final minutes of the first period to make it 2-0.
Ethen Frank scored in the final minute of the second period and the Caps took a 3-0 lead to the locker room.
The Ducks got a power play in the third period, but couldn’t convert. There was no scoring in the final frame and Anaheim dropped this one by a 3-0 final.
Analysis:
Another rough outing for Anaheim, who has been held scoreless in the last two of their three games. The Ducks were outshot 18 to 11 through two periods and only had two shots on goal in the second period. They did outshoot the Caps 8 to 7 in the third, but couldn’t get any pucks past Thompson.
Anaheim continues to have a difficult time during even strength play. The Ducks put up a CF% of 43.12% and FF% of 42.11%. The Capitals had 13 high dangerous and the Ducks had just 5. Washington had a xGF% of 65.58% to 34.42% for Anaheim. The Ducks are 31st in CF%, 30th in FF%, and 30th in xGF%.
Special teams wasn’t a factor in this one as there were only three power play. The Capitals had two man advantages and the Ducks had one. Neither team scored on the power play. Anaheim’s sits at 31st in the league on the power play with a 13.0% efficiency. The Ducks are 5 for 54 on the power play in Trevor Zegras‘ absence.
