Ducks Sign Djoos & Hakanpää To Extensions
By Michael Walters
The Anaheim Ducks have signed Jani Hakanpää to a 1-year/1-way extension per Cap Friendly. The contract is worth $750,000 and has no signing bonuses.
The Ducks announced they also signed Christian Djoos. The contract is a 1-year/1-way deal worth $1 million according to the Athletic’s Eric Stephens.
Jani Hakanpaa
Last season Hakanpaa played in five games with Anaheim scoring one goal. His on-ice rating was +1 and he had two penalty minutes. He made his NHL debut with the Ducks on March 4th against Colorado. He played just over 15 minutes registering one shot on goal and four hits in the Ducks 4-3 overtime win against the Avalanche.
He spent a majority of the 2019-20 season in San Diego where he played 47 games. While with the Gulls he recorded 13 total points(1 goal + 12 assists). He was a +12 with 24 penalty minutes. The 6-foot 5-inch tall, 218-pound Finnish defensemen could see more ice time next season in Anaheim depending on who returns on the blue line.
Christian Djoos
The Ducks traded Daniel Sprong to the Washington Capitals for Christian Djoos in one of many moves at the traded deadline. Djoos played in nine games with the Ducks registering three total points(one goal and two assists). He had an on-ice rating of +2 and no penalty minutes.
Djoos was used heavily with the Ducks logging an average of over 21 minutes of ice time per game. He was also used on the special teams, primarily playing on the power play where he was on ice approximately 53% of the time when the Ducks had a man advantage.
The Ducks still have several defensemen that are not signed for next season. The unrestricted free agents(UFAs) include Michael Del Zotto, Matt Irwin, and Chris Wideman. The restricted free agents(RFAs) include Brendan Guhle, Jacob Larsson, and Joel Persson.
