Ducks Sign Kloos and Wideman
By Michael Walters
The Anaheim Ducks have signed RFA forward Justin Kloos and UFA defenseman Chris Wideman according to John Hoven. Kloos’ and Wideman’s deals are both one year/two-way contracts and worth $700,000.
Kloos played one NHL game last season and 59 AHL games. He played in 25 games with the San Diego Gulls recording 15 total points(6 G + 9 A). He also played in 16 playoff games recording 9 total points(3 G + 6 A). He is an average offensive player with some solid two-way play. He has a lot of energy as he can get to the dirty areas. He has also been good on the power play in the minor leagues. The question for him is if he can carry over some offensive play at the NHL level.
Wideman played in one NHL game with Florida last season, five games with Edmonton, and 19 games with Ottawa. He recorded a total of 7 points(2 G + 5 A). He is an offensive defenseman with good vision and hockey sense. He a solid shot and good skating ability. One drawback is his size as he is 5’10 and 183 lbs. And like Kloos, Wideman hasn’t been able to prove he can be an NHL regular yet.
No Arbitration For Chase De Leo
The Ducks and Chase De Leo agreed on a 1 year/2-way deal worth $750,000 per Cap Friendly. The new deal will bring back De Leo without the team having to deal with arbitration. De Leo played one game in Anaheim and 66 games in San Diego. With the Gulls, he registered 55 total points(20 G + 35 A). He played in 16 AHL playoff games and scored five goals.
